New Zealand vs N. American Colostrum

Question: Do free-ranging cows, such as New Zealand cows, really produce better colostrum? What about the green hills and all that nice imagery?

Answer: Have you ever been to school?

The fact is, in order to be effective, the immune system has to be educated. A very good example is a study in which newborn pigs were placed in a sterile environment, to see if they would grow faster and develop better, without having to fight pathogens. The piglets thrived under sterile conditions. They grew faster and put on more muscle. And then a germ found its way into their environment, and they all died. The piglets immune systems had not been educated about how to respond to various threats. The moral of the story is that the immune systems of New Zealand free-ranging cows are exposed to relatively few viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Consequently their immune systems receive relatively little training. This lack of education is manifested in the unschooled colostrum they produce.

The immune systems of North American dairy cows are exposed to many challenges. They are educated in how to respond to these many challenges. This education is passed on in the colostrum. Therefore the colostrum of North American dairy cows is programmed to provide maximum immune protection, whereas New Zealand colostrum has never been to school. It is relatively uneducated about how to deal with pathogenic threats.

Question: Why do New Zealand companies harvest colostrum during the first 24 hours post calving, instead of sooner?

Answer: With free-ranging cattle, it is difficult if not impossible to harvest colostrum within the first six hours. Thus the New Zealand companies harvest later. In fact their product is described by Cornell University to be in fact not colostrum at all, but transistional milk, a term meaning it is no longer true colostrum and not yet completely milk, but a mixture of the two.

Question: Why does New Zealand remove the fat?

Answer: Primitive, uncontrollable harvesting conditions do not allow for proper care of colostrum, and the fat is likely to become rancid before it can be atomized and dried. The fat contains both immune factors and growth factors that are lost when the fat is removed. New Zealand claims that they improve colostrum by removing the fat. One hundred and fifty million years of mammalian evolution say otherwise. You can't fool Mother Nature and you can't outsmart God, something worth remembering whenever you see any product in which the colostrum has been "improved".

Question: How are the cows treated that provide Synertek colostrum?

Answer: They are fed a scientifically balanced diet formulated by the best US agricultural universities, including both grains and grasses. They are given access to the outdoors with room to exercise in the sunshine and fresh air.

Question: Is Synertek colostrum Organic?

Answer: Synertek Colostrum is tested organic colostrum. It is free of heavy metals, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, hormones and antibiotics. Each dairy is required to sign an affidavit that they do not feed animal parts or by products.

Question: What about the calves? Aren't you taking the best colostrum from them?

Answer: The newborn calves are given a full liter of the first colostrum, ensuring their health, strength and vitality. The surplus is harvested for use as a dietary supplement.
